The Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation - CIHT Malaysia Branch had conducted a technical visit to the Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak project on 6 May 2023. CIHTMB was established in 1989 with the objective of promoting and improving the science and engineering practice on roads and transportations as well as all the related disciplines. Majority of the members are made up of the professional personnels in the construction field and highway management. According to YBhg Datuk Zakaria Ahmad Zabidi, Vice President (CIHT), Chief Operation Officer (PLUS Malaysia Berhad) who also acts as the delegation leader said that the visit, which was joined by 38 other members from CIHT was intended to improve their knowledge and understanding when it comes to the planning, construction, operation, maintenance and infrastructure facilities payment for the Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak projects. During the visit, a briefing was conducted by Ir. Awg Mohamad Fadillah Awg Redzuan, Principal Assistant Director (Pan Borneo Highway, JKR Sarawak) whereby the delegates were brought to CH0 (Telok Melano Sematan) under Work Package Contract 01. After that, they visited Batang Kayan Bridge which is under Work Package Contract 02 (WPC02) before the detailed briefing at the project site office for WPC02 at Moyan Square. Also present during the technical visit were Sahrein Maloh, Manager (Corporate Communication & Land Issues); Encik Chang Chee Khiong, Senior Officer (Information Technology & Asset Management); Puan Ir. Athirah Abdullah, Project Manager WPC02; Cik Hazwani Suzanna Binti Norman, Information Technology Officer and representative from contractor, Pengurusan Lebuhraya Pan Borneo Sarawak Sdn Bhd (PLPS) who acts as project management consultant (PMC).

Yang Berhormat Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Deputy Premier Sarawak, Second Minister for Finance and New Economy and Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development (MIPD) Sarawak had visited the project sites for Batang Paloh Bridge (P03) and Muara Lassa Bridge (P04). The work visit to both project sites began with a briefing by Encik Roland Ting Ka Swee, Assistant Director (Coastal & Second Trunk Road) on the overall work progress of the projects. During the visit, Deputy Premier Sarawak had reminded the project team and contractor to proactively resolve any issue that may arise on site so that the project can be completed as per scheduled. Datuk Amar and his team then proceeded to move to Muara Lassa Bridge for the next visit. He had expressed his gratitude to the contractor for their effort in making sure that the project can be completed within schedule. Both bridges are expected to be completed by the end of 2024. These bridges will be able to improve the road connectivity which is important in the coastal areas. Also present during the site visit were YB Ir. Aidel Bin Lariwoo, Assistant Minister of Infrastructure & Ports Development (Infrastructure Development), Ahli-ahli Dewan Undangan Negeri from ADUN N.42 Semop and ADUN N.43 Daro, Encik Chiew Chee Yau, Permanent Secretary (MIPD), Encik Abdul Talib bin Jarni, Divisional Engineer (JKR Mukah), consultant and contractor.

Ir. Ts. Cassidy Anak Morris, Deputy Director (Infrastructure) representing Director of Public Work Sarawak had launched the Road Safety Campaign in conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri. This campaign was intended to increase public awareness especially the road users on the importance of road safety during the festive season. Those who are using Pan Borneo Highway are reminded to comply to the 90km/h speed limit that had been imposed as well as to be more cautious whenever they are nearby the P-turn junctions. The safety briefing was delivered by Encik Andrew Ngayom, Safety & Health Officer, Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak Management. To conclude the ceremony, 300 goodie bags which contain brochures on road safety were distributed to the road users in order to improve their awareness. Also present during the event were officers from JKR Sarawak, PDRM, consultants and contractors.

YBrs. Ir. Ts. Richard Anak Tajan,Director of Public Works Sarawak had conducted a work visit at the project site at the roundabout nearby National Heart Institute, Samarahan in order to monitor the current progress of the project. He had also been briefed about the project implementation status from the team as well as discussing on the utitlities matter with Sarawak Energy Bhd and Telekom Malaysia. Also present during the visit were Ts. Meehan Anak Jorai, Principal Assistant Director, PIMU (Unit Perlaksanaan dan Pemantauan Projek), Encik Indra Sakti Bin Haron, Divisional Engineer (JKR Samarahan), senior officers from JKR Sarawak, Sarawak Energy Bhd and Telekom Malaysia.

Proposed Vehicle Yard and Associated Facilities at Senari Port; dan ii. Construction of Jambatan Sejingkat. The work visit was kickstarted with the briefing on the projects that are currently under implementation by Ir. Ts. Cassidy anak Morris, JKR Deputy Director (Infrastructure) at the VTMS Control Centre, Senari Port. The team then departed to the project sites to monitor the physical progress on site. Discussions were held to address project matters as well as to finding ways to resolve the issues so that the project can be completed within the stipulated time period. Also present during the visit were YB Ir. Aidel bin Lariwoo, Assistant Minister of Infrastructure & Ports Development (Infrastructure Development), Mr. Chiew Chee Yau, Permanent Secretary (MIPD), Encik Robert Lau Hong Thiam, General Manager (Kuching Port Authority), Ts. Puan Siti Nurainawati binti Aini, Deputy Director (Building & Specialist) had represented Director of Public Works Sarawak in receiving the courtesy visit by the delegation from Politeknik Mukah, which was led by Encik Hisamudin Bin Mohd Tamim, Director of Politeknik Mukah earlier today. This visit was intended to strengthen the relationship and teamwork between JKR Sarawak and Politeknik Mukah as well as to discuss on the progress of the projects implemented under 12 Malaysia Plan that are related to both parties. Also present during this visit were Ir. Bujang ak Kanang, Principal Assistant Director (Road & Civil Engineering Assets), Hjh.
