The Premier of Sarawak, Yang Amat Berhormat Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, officiated the opening of the Jambatan Muara Lassa today, marking another significant milestone in the State Government’s efforts to strengthen the coastal road network and accelerate socio-economic development for rural communities. Completed on 9 January 2025, the 2,430-metre bridge forms part of the Sarawak Coastal Road project. It was developed to enhance land connectivity for rural residents who previously depended entirely on ferry services to cross Batang Lassa. Ferry travel typically took around 30 minutes, but during peak periods such as weekends and festive seasons, waiting times could exceed an hour. The construction of this bridge will speed up daily movement, facilitate the transport of goods, reduce travel time and contribute to lower transportation costs.
In his speech, the Premier of Sarawak stated that the development of this bridge not only connects Daro more efficiently but also opens greater opportunities in the economic sector, including agriculture, commerce and tourism along the coastal region. Following the officiating of Jambatan Muara Lassa, the Premier also inaugurated the Pusat Pemulihan Dalam Komuniti (PDK) Daro, underscoring the State Government’s commitment to enhancing rehabilitation programmes and community welfare.
PDK Daro functions as a rehabilitation and support centre for persons with disabilities (OKU) in the area. With its new building and improved facilities, rehabilitation programmes can now be carried out more effectively. The centre also serves as an important platform to raise public awareness on the importance of care and rehabilitation for the disabled community, in line with the government’s efforts to ensure inclusive and comprehensive development across Sarawak.
