Ground Breaking Ceremony - Sebauh Sports Complex

The Public Works Department Sarawak today marked the official commencement of the Construction and Completion of the Sebauh Sports Complex in Sebauh, Bintulu, with a groundbreaking ceremony officiated by Minister of Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development Sarawak, YB Dato Sri Stephen Rundi Anak Utom, who is also the State Assemblyman for N.69 Kemena. The event was held together with YBrs. Ir. Ts. Gs. Br. PMr. Dr. Cassidy Anak Morris, Director of Public Works Sarawak. The sports complex will be developed on Lot 966, Selezau Land District, Sebauh, encompassing a development area of 12.795 acres (5.178 hectares). The project is an initiative by the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak, with the Public Works Department Sarawak serving as the implementing agency. Completion is targeted for July 2026.

The complex will feature key facilities including a 400m x 400m synthetic running track with eight lanes meeting IAAF standards, a FIFA-compliant football field, a grandstand equipped with seating, changing rooms, male and female washrooms, utility rooms, and M&E rooms, as well as athletics facilities such as long jump, high jump, shot put, javelin throw, pole vault, and discus and hammer throw areas. According to YB Dato Sri Stephen Rundi Anak Utom, the Sebauh Sports Complex is not merely an infrastructure project but a new landmark for the local community in Sebauh and Bintulu. He emphasised that it represents an investment in youth talent development and the promotion of healthy lifestyles among residents.

The Director of Public Works Sarawak reaffirmed the department’s commitment to ensuring that the project progresses according to schedule and delivers high-quality facilities that will provide long-term benefits to the public. The development of the Sebauh Sports Complex is expected to bring significant advantages to the local community, serving as a hub for sports talent development, recreation, and healthy living. It also has the potential to boost the local economy by attracting sporting events, visitors, and employment opportunities. The complex is anticipated to become a new landmark and an important platform for advancing sports development in Sarawak.
