Project Empowerment Visit in Bario STOLport

The Director of Public Works Sarawak, YBhg. Datu Adj. Prof. Ir. Ts. Gs. Br. PMr. Dr. Cassidy anak Morris, concluded the Second Series of the Project Empowerment Visit with a site inspection of the ongoing Bario STOLport Runway Upgrading Project in Sarawak. The project represents an important initiative to strengthen air transportation facilities in the interior regions of Sarawak, while enhancing the safety and efficiency of flight operations for the benefit of local communities.

The key scope of the project includes site clearing works, earthworks and geotechnical works, drainage works, runway extension works, the construction of a taxiway and access road, as well as the construction of an Automated Weather System (AWS) Building. The project also involves refurbishment works to the terminal building, mechanical and electrical works, and other supporting works including the installation of security fencing and wind direction indicators. In addition, the project includes the extension of the aircraft parking apron, the construction of the Head of Stand Road and resurfacing works at the existing parking area to further enhance operational facilities at the STOLport. To date, the project has achieved 50.62 percent physical progress and is ahead of the implementation schedule, with full completion expected by September 2026. The visit reflects the continued commitment of the Public Works Department Sarawak to ensure that infrastructure projects are implemented efficiently, delivered with high quality and generate positive impacts for development and the well-being of communities in rural areas.
