Yang Berhormat Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Deputy Premier Sarawak and Minister of Finance and New Economy II as well as Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Sarawak, officiated the pre-opening ceremony of the Batang Igan Bridge today. The construction of the Batang Igan Bridge forms part of the Jalan Pesisir Sarawak Package D5 development, implemented by Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR) Sarawak as the executing agency under the Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development Sarawak.

The 1,439.40-metre bridge is constructed in accordance with JKR R5 Standard as a two-lane bridge, utilising Prestressed Post-Tensioned T-Beam and Balanced Cantilever systems. The project also includes the construction of two-lane approach roads on both ends of the bridge, as well as the upgrading of sections of the existing road to R5 standards to enhance safety and comfort for road users.

With the completion of the Batang Igan Bridge, it becomes the ninth bridge completed in Sarawak after Jambatan Marudi, Muara Lassa, Tun Taib Mahmud (Jepak), Tun Datuk Patinggi Tuanku Haji Bujang Tuanku Haji Othman (Batang Rajang), Batang Saribas, Datuk Amar Juma’ani (Bintangor), Sebauh and Lingga. The completion of the bridge significantly reduces travel time, which previously took approximately 30 minutes via ferry services, to just a few minutes by road. This pre-opening ceremony marks another important milestone in the Sarawak Government’s efforts to strengthen the state’s infrastructure network through the implementation of the Jalan Pesisir Sarawak project, delivering substantial benefits to the people.
