KUTS PROJECT COORDINATION MEETING STRENGTHENS STRATEGIC COLLABORATION IN SAMARAHAN

A coordination meeting for the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project was held at Bilik Muhibbah, JKR Samarahan, and chaired by Yang Berhormat Datuk Hajah Rubiah binti Wang, Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development and Member of Parliament for P197 Kota Samarahan. The meeting involved Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR) Samarahan and Sarawak Metro Sdn. Bhd., and was also attended by representatives of N.16 Muara Tuang. The session was convened to discuss the latest progress of the KUTS project, particularly the Blue Line Package 1 in Kota Samarahan, which is scheduled for completion by the end of this year. Discussions focused on the implementation status of the project, including work progress, current challenges, and improvement measures to ensure smooth execution.

During the meeting, Datuk Hajah Rubiah highlighted public concerns regarding traffic congestion in the Kota Samarahan area. She emphasised the need for Sarawak Metro to strengthen traffic management and planning, particularly along major routes affected by ongoing construction activities. She also shared ongoing efforts to propose the construction of several alternative roads linking the Kota Samarahan Administrative Centre to the Jalan Meranek area. The proposal is viewed as an important measure to alleviate traffic congestion at the Entingan Roundabout, a key route serving Universiti Teknologi MARA and nearby residential communities.

She further expressed concern over the potential increase in traffic volume following the opening of the new SMK Sri Samarahan along Jalan Meranek if mitigation measures are not implemented in advance. In this regard, she called for close cooperation from JKR Sarawak, particularly JKR Samarahan, to study and realise the proposed alternative road network for the benefit of road users. She also conveyed her appreciation to JKR and Sarawak Metro for their commitment and continuous efforts in ensuring the smooth implementation of the project and the well-being of local residents. The meeting underscored the importance of sustained strategic collaboration among all stakeholders in advancing sustainable infrastructure development and delivering long-term benefits to the community.
