YBhg. Datu Adj. Prof. Ir. Ts. Gs. Br. PMr. Dr. Cassidy anak Morris attended a site visit to the Kuala Baram Delta Access Channel Dredging & Deepening Project together with the Premier of Sarawak, YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg. During the briefing session, the Premier was provided with an overview of the project scope, which involves dredging and deepening works aimed at enhancing navigational capacity and improving the safety of vessels passing through the Kuala Baram Delta area.

The project’s key components include deepening the access channel to a depth of minus five metres, the construction of stabilisation embankments (training bunds) extending six kilometres on each side of the channel for a total length of 12 kilometres to control sediment movement, and the upgrading of navigational aids to strengthen maritime safety. Upon completion, the project is expected to significantly enhance port operations and establish a strong foundation for the future expansion of Miri Port as a major maritime and logistics hub in northern Sarawak.

The project is currently ahead of schedule, with overall physical progress reaching 55 per cent. Major components, including bund construction, dredging activities and related marine infrastructure works, are progressing smoothly towards early completion. JKR Sarawak remains committed to providing full technical support to ensure the project is implemented efficiently, in accordance with specifications and within the stipulated timeframe. The department will also continue to play an active role in technical monitoring and coordination to ensure the successful delivery of the project and its positive impact on the people and development of Sarawak.
