The Director of Public Works Sarawak, YBhg. Datu Adj. Prof. Ir. Ts. Gs. Br. PMr. Dr. Cassidy anak Morris, delivered a strategic briefing during Program Sarawakku Sayang Bahagian Miri 2026, which was officiated by the Premier of Sarawak, YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg. During the event, he also presented the Pelan Inisiatif Pengambilalihan Jalan Balak and the Rural Bridges Transformation Program to the Premier as a symbolic gesture of JKR Sarawak’s commitment to strengthening the implementation of infrastructure development initiatives across the state.

The briefing focused on ongoing projects in Bahagian Miri, particularly the initiative to take over former logging roads and the implementation of the Rural Bridges Transformation Program (RBTP), both of which serve as key drivers in enhancing safety, accessibility and connectivity for rural communities. To date, a total of 5,977.038 kilometres of former logging roads throughout Sarawak have been successfully registered under the MARRIS system, of which 2,363.591 kilometres are located within Bahagian Miri. This initiative reflects the state’s continued efforts towards establishing a more systematic, safer and efficient road network for the benefit of the people.

In addition, the implementation of the RBTP in Bahagian Miri involves the construction and upgrading of 26 bridges, which will further improve connectivity and support the socio-economic development of local communities in a more inclusive and sustainable manner. The programme demonstrates the strong commitment and collaboration between the Sarawak Government and JKR Sarawak in delivering high-impact infrastructure projects that are aligned with the state’s development agenda and dedicated to improving the well-being of its people.
