The Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak continues to strengthen its technical expertise and global collaboration through a strategic visit to the World Tunnel Congress (WTC) 2025, held from 10 to 14 May 2025 in Stockholm, Sweden. This prestigious global event, themed “Tunneling into a Sustainable Future”, brought together more than 3,000 delegates from over 80 countries and Sarawak was on the map!
JKR Sarawak’s five-member delegation, led by Adj. Prof. Ir. Ts. Gs. Br. PMr. Dr. Cassidy anak Morris, Director of Public Works, explored the latest advancements in tunnel engineering, underground infrastructure, sustainability practices, and safety innovations. We engaged with world-class experts, visited pioneering projects such as the Stockholm E4 Bypass Tunnel and deep underground metro systems, and discovered how digital technologies like AI, BIM, and IoT are transforming tunnel construction and operation.
These insights are directly relevant to Sarawak’s challenging terrain and our vision for sustainable, resilient infrastructure. From potential road tunnels in mountainous areas to underground solutions in urban development and hydropower projects the future of Sarawak’s infrastructure is exciting. This visit has opened doors to new ideas, new partners, and new possibilities for Sarawak.
