Director of Public Works Site Visit to Bangunan Arkib Sarawak

The Director of Public Works Sarawak, YBrs. Ir. Ts. Gs. Br. PMr. Dr. Cassidy anak Morris, conducted a working visit to the site of the Bangunan Arkib Sarawak, a key development initiative for the state. The project is intended to preserve and conserve valuable archival materials and heritage assets of Sarawak. Bangunan Arkib Sarawak plays a significant role in safeguarding the state’s documentary heritage, ensuring that important records are systematically preserved, accessed, and studied by future generations. As part of efforts to enhance construction efficiency and quality, the project adopts Building Information Modelling (BIM). The application of BIM aims to improve project delivery quality and information exchange among stakeholders, while enabling more effective 3D modelling, visualisation, coordination, analysis, and project documentation. The implementation of BIM in this project reflects the commitment of the Public Works Department Sarawak to adopting modern technologies to enhance effectiveness and efficiency in construction project management.

During the visit, the Director of Public Works Sarawak also attended a briefing on the implementation of BIM for the project. The briefing provided in-depth insights into how BIM technology enhances efficiency in planning, coordination, and overall construction project management. He was also given the opportunity to utilise BIM equipment at the project site to observe firsthand the effectiveness of the technology in managing construction activities.

The visit concluded with a site inspection, during which the Director of Public Works Sarawak emphasised the importance of ensuring that the project is implemented in accordance with the approved plans. He also instructed that contractors, consultants, and the Public Works Department Sarawak continue to work closely together to ensure the project is completed on schedule and in compliance with the specified requirements. This working visit underscores the commitment of the Public Works Department Sarawak to ensuring that the state’s infrastructure development is carried out smoothly and to a high standard of quality, in line with Sarawak’s aspirations to become a progressive and sustainable state.
