Yang Berhormat Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak as well as Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak, conducted a site visit to the Proposed Refurbishment and Transformation Project of the Old Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) Building into the Sarawak State Performing Arts Centre. The visit aimed to review the current progress of the project and to ensure that construction works are being carried out smoothly in accordance with the planned schedule, technical specifications, and established timelines. As of 25 February 2026, the project has achieved 29.84% physical progress, in line with the current implementation schedule. Valued at RM247 million, the project is designed with a seating capacity of 600, meeting the requirements of a state-level performing arts centre.
During a media session, Yang Berhormat Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah stated that the project implementation is on schedule and demonstrating encouraging performance, even progressing ahead of expectations. He expressed confidence that the project will be completed as planned and will meet the required quality standards. During the visit, a project briefing was delivered by the Director of Public Works Sarawak, covering the scope of work and the current status of the project.
The Sarawak State Performing Arts Centre project is expected to be fully completed by June 2027 and is set to become a new landmark for Sarawak. It will serve as a premier venue for showcasing the state’s rich heritage in arts, dance, music, and ethnic culture, which continues to gain recognition both locally and internationally. The Public Works Department Sarawak remains committed to ensuring that the project is implemented efficiently, with high quality and sustainability, in support of the state’s socio-economic development aspirations.
